About - Julie Twite BMus (Hons) PGCE

Flute Lessons in Chichester 


Julie is very pasionate about music education  and has been teaching the flute for over 15 years. She enjoys the high quality results which can be found one to one teaching. Julie trained as a secondary school music teacher at the University of Bristol gaining her PGCE and QTS status. She worked full time flute specialist peripatetic teacher for Aylesbury Music Centre, Bucks Music Service. Teaching 20 schools a week from beginners to grade 8 Julie built up a wealth of experience teaching instrumentally.


In 2011 Julie moved to Chichester to start her private teaching studio. In the past few years Julie's pupils have gained music scholarships to local private schools including Prebendal SchoolHurstpierpoint College and Brighton College. In February 2016 a talented pupil won the McCoy cup, the solo flute prize at the Chichester Festival of Music, Speech and Dance and reached the final of the West Sussex Youth Music Awards in 2017. She believes in one to one high quality teaching and designs her teaching to each individual student. She teaches a large number of adults throughout the week as well as children at her music room fom beginners to diploma level pupils. She uses ABRSM and Trinity College exam boards and has gained high results. Alongside her private teaching Julie works for Hampshire Music Service delivering classroom instrumental projects in primary schools. 





Julie won a scholarship to study flute with Professor Graham Mayger at the Royal College of Music through her degree at Royal Holloway. She became Principle Flute of Royal Holloway Symphony Orchestra and performed Malcolm Arnold's Concerto for Flute and Strings with the orchestra. She has played for the Aeolian Wind Quintet, the Aylesbury Symphony Orchestra, the Worthing Philharmonic Orchestra, The Gala Festival Orchestra, The Myraid Chamber Orchestra, Southdowns Concert Band and has been performing solo recitals across the area as well as taking masterclasses with inernational artists. She plays on a Miyazawa flute.


Musical Director


In 2016 Julie founded Chichester Flute Choir and is their musical director. The Flute Choir perform regularly to the local community and have raised money for charity.


In the past Julie has conducted the Aylesbury Music Centre Junior Flute Choir, Beginner Wind Band WinslowSir Henry Flloyd Grammar School Flute Ensemble, and the Brighton Hill Woodwind Ensemble.

BFS Council member and West Sussex Representative 


From 2016 Julie has been appointed a new council member for the British Flute Society and the West Sussex Area representative. She is looking forward to hosting a Chichester flute day next year and helping the BFS with their social media.

Incorperated Society of Musicians


Julie is a member of the ISM, a union for musicians and private teachers through which she has public liability insurance and has had qualifications verified.

DBS checked (enhanced CRB checked)


Through her work for Hampshire Music Service Julie has gone through all the thorough checks of a classroom teacher and has up to date DBS. She also is kept up to date with child protection training and attends regular CPD days.
